Somali American Leaders and Mediators Training
The Somali American Leaders and Mediators (SALAM) program is a unique training program shaped by Somali practices and Islamic teachings for Somali youth (16-25). Somali youth take a mediation training that is certified by the Minnesota Supreme Court to become mediators eligible for the Rule 114 roster. Additionally, they learn about and participate in restorative practices. The goal is for Somali youth to use these skills in their schools, workplaces and communities. Mediation and restorative justice practices empower communities to solve conflicts and restore relationships. This program is in partnership with Community Mediation & Restorative Services.
The full Mediation training will be five full days, from April 30 - May 4 at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. (Monday - Friday, 8:30-4:30) This training will be certified by the Minnesota Supreme Court. SALAM participants, ages 16-25, who complete all 30 hours will receive a stipend. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for this training as well.
